Research News – Comments on Year 12 Exit Survey 2018 for Pacific Group of Schools
As Research Consultant for The Excellence Centre, Dr Anne Knowles and I had the privilege of working with the Year 12 cohort from The Pacific Group of Schools to carry out a Year 12 Exit Survey.
The 2018 Year 12 student graduates said the overall effect of the school on their character development was something they valued. Many commented on the benefit of the influence of Christian ideas and the faith development of the students was perceived as being strongly supported by School Missions 25%, ‘School Friends’ 24% and teachers 9%.
Teaching Staff were considered effective in teaching and pastoral care. The highest positive response for the students’ experience of the teaching staff was in their modelling of Christian maturity (77%). The students also mentioned the supportive role of teachers. They found teachers to be knowledgeable about their subject and were available outside the classroom. Many teachers were seen as providing extra help with school work if students needed it (87%). Students thought teachers cared about how they were doing in school 77%.
Classmates were seen as being a major factor in helping students “keep going to graduation” 74%. Pleasingly, ‘enjoyment of learning in classes that were fun’ was the third highest choice (41%).
For the question of whether the school helped ‘you examine ethical issues and values?’ 54% of students said some lessons provided help, 28% said many opportunities were provided, and 20 % said little help was provided.
Students varied in their experience of other cultures at the school. Some had little experience of other cultures (10%); others said they had some experience 54%; and 43% had a broad experience of other cultures at Pacific Hills.
